Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall B
ValueB NeedB+ TradesB- FutureB-
The 49ers kept it disciplined and banked a B.

There was a run on nobody at that position, and the 49ers started one anyway for Stone Handy, 215 picks ahead of schedule. A dependable weekend that grades out a B.

That is a safety worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. The running back hole is the one line item this class does not answer. The roster is better shaped than it was, with offensive lineman chief among the fixes.

Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but running back.

Pick Analysis
Pick11 Rnd1 Kelvin Banks Jr.
In slot 11 they get a cornerstone up front. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick43 Rnd2 Shavon Revel Jr.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Shavon Revel Jr. at pick 43. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick75 Rnd3 Aireontae Ersery
Circle this one: Aireontae Ersery at the 75th overall pick is a fall that decides a draft. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick100 Rnd3 Jalen Royals
Steal is underselling it; Jalen Royals at the 100th pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick113 Rnd4 Luke Kandra
Luke Kandra at Round 4, Pick 11 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick138 Rnd4 Seth McLaughlin
A real head-scratcher, Seth McLaughlin in No. 138 is miles ahead of his ranking. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick147 Rnd5 Stone Handy
Value said wait; Stone Handy in slot 147 says they were not listening. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick160 Rnd5 Jaylin Lane
A top-tier wide receiver at a bargain, Jaylin Lane in the Round 5 slot, plain and simple. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick227 Rnd7 Riley Leonard
They barely believed it either: Riley Leonard still on the board at pick 227. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick249 Rnd7 Jonas Sanker
A safety of that caliber at No. 249 is the definition of value, full stop. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick252 Rnd7 Jonas Sanker
Jonas Sanker in the 252nd overall pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
