Somehow the biggest item on the list survived the weekend. The 49ers never addressed quarterback, and it is the kind of gap that lingers.

That Fields pick is the receipt they will wave around later. On the needs board they went 5 of 8, with offensive lineman the one that mattered most.

Trading back for volume was the quiet throughline of their weekend. Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.

Good work on the whole, with quarterback the one box left unchecked.
