Draft Grade — Bears
Overall B-
ValueB- NeedB+ TradesB- FutureB-
The Bears checked most of the boxes and earned a B-.

For all the names on the card, the loudest question went unanswered. The Bears walked out of the weekend still thin at cornerback, a hole that has a way of deciding seasons.

Getting Sanker where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. Reaching for Turner left real value on the table behind him.

They went 5 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for. Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.

Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.

Pick Analysis
Pick10 Rnd1 Armand Membou
In pick No. 10 they get a building block for the line at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick39 Rnd2 Tyler Booker
Tyler Booker in Round 2, Pick 7 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick41 Rnd2 JT Tuimoloau
They paid up for JT Tuimoloau at the Round 2 slot when waiting would have done the job. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick72 Rnd3 Shemar Turner
A premium they did not need to pay, Shemar Turner a notch or two before his time. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick148 Rnd5 Jonas Sanker
Jonas Sanker is a better player than pick 148 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick233 Rnd7 Phil Mafah
Phil Mafah at No. 233 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick240 Rnd7 Theo Wease Jr.
A straight-up fair deal on Theo Wease Jr. at the 240th overall pick, value and slot in agreement. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
