Draft Grade — Bills

ValueB NeedB TradesB- FutureB-
Best value of the weekend goes to the Bills for Starks: B-.

Somebody in pick No. 62 was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Bills sat still while Malaki Starks, the No. 27 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium.

Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. They are betting Caldwell proves the room right and everyone else wrong.

Linebacker is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.

Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.

Pick Analysis
Pick30 Rnd1 Luther Burden III
Nothing to complain about; Luther Burden III went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick56 Rnd2 Maxwell Hairston
They paid up for Maxwell Hairston at the 56th pick when waiting would have done the job. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick62 Rnd2 Malaki Starks
Somehow Malaki Starks was still sitting there in pick No. 62, and they pounced on premier safety value. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick109 Rnd4 Jamaree Caldwell
Jamaree Caldwell in Round 4, Pick 7 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick132 Rnd4 Jeffrey Bassa
Nice patience on Jeffrey Bassa, who had no business lasting to No. 132. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick169 Rnd5 Ryan Fitzgerald
Good price on Ryan Fitzgerald in the 169th overall pick, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
Pick170 Rnd5 Chase Lundt
No edge and no loss on Chase Lundt in the Round 5 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick173 Rnd5 Jonah Monheim
Jonah Monheim in slot 173 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick177 Rnd6 Quincy Riley
Quincy Riley in slot 177 is fair value, right on his grade. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
Pick206 Rnd6 KeAndre Lambert-Smith
KeAndre Lambert-Smith at pick 206 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
