The Colts cashed the board's mistake on Giddens: B-. The needs board said one thing and the Colts did another, using the Round 4 slot on Denzel Burke while quarterback, offensive lineman and other spots waited.
The quarterback spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. However the rest shakes out, Giddens at that price is a win they earned.
Fannin Jr. has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. Job largely done: wide receiver settled and 4 of 8 of the wish list covered.
Good work on the whole, with quarterback the one box left unchecked.
Pick Analysis
Pick14
Rnd1
Will Johnson
Will Johnson slipping to the 14th pick is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick45
Rnd2
Harold Fannin Jr.
A reach for Harold Fannin Jr. in pick 45; a little patience would have been rewarded. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick80
Rnd3
Chris Paul Jr.
A straight-up fair deal on Chris Paul Jr. at the Round 3 slot, value and slot in agreement. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick117
Rnd4
Denzel Burke
A curious use of the 117th overall pick. Quarterback, offensive lineman and other spots needed the pick; a cornerback in Denzel Burke did not.
Pick151
Rnd5
Nick Nash
By-the-book stuff, Nick Nash at Round 5, Pick 13 squarely in line with his ranking. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick189
Rnd6
DJ Giddens
DJ Giddens in slot 189 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick232
Rnd7
Akili Arnold
They read the board right and Akili Arnold was the payoff at No. 232. It adds depth where they could use a little.
