Draft Grade — Texans
Overall B
ValueB NeedB+ TradesB- FutureB-
Nothing loud, just a tidy B for the Texans.

You can draft well and still miss the point. The Texans did plenty of tidy work and somehow never got around to wide receiver, which was the need that mattered most. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B.

They will need Broughton to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. The Judkins value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere. The roster is better shaped than it was, with running back chief among the fixes.

Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.

Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.

Pick Analysis
Pick25 Rnd1 Kenneth Grant
In the 25th pick they get a run-stuffing presence up front. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick58 Rnd2 Kaleb Johnson
Kaleb Johnson slid further than he should have, and Round 2, Pick 26 is lovely value for the running back. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick79 Rnd3 Quinshon Judkins
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Quinshon Judkins at pick No. 79 is the proof. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick89 Rnd3 Dylan Fairchild
A reach for Dylan Fairchild in No. 89; a little patience would have been rewarded. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick166 Rnd5 Vernon Broughton
Vernon Broughton at slot 166 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick236 Rnd7 Bilhal Kone
They did well to land Bilhal Kone in the 236th overall pick, just ahead of his grade. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick241 Rnd7 Dante Trader Jr.
A clean, defensible pick in the Round 7 slot with a little surplus value in Dante Trader Jr.. A minor itch, scratched.
