Draft Grade — Bears
Overall D-
ValueB NeedB TradesF FutureC
A franchise passer in Maye headlines a D- weekend for the Bears.

Somebody took the Bears to the cleaners. The deals they made bled real value, and the whole class wears it. A weekend that fought the value and lost, hence the D-.

Whatever Drake Maye becomes, the front office has tied its fortunes to the answer. Reaching for Johnson left real value on the table behind him. For all the activity, linebacker went untouched, which is hard to explain.

Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Coleman.

Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even.

Pick Analysis
Pick4 Rnd1 Joe Alt
In pick No. 4 they get a blindside protector. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick5 Rnd1 Drake Maye
A market-rate quarterback, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Drake Maye. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick9 Rnd1 Rome Odunze
In the Round 1 slot they get a matchup problem out wide at fair value. A real need, handled.
Pick20 Rnd1 Cooper DeJean
In pick 20 they get a lockdown presence outside at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick27 Rnd1 Jackson Powers-Johnson
In slot 27 they get a cornerstone up front.
Pick67 Rnd3 Keon Coleman
A top-tier wide receiver at a bargain, Keon Coleman in No. 67, plain and simple. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick68 Rnd3 Kamren Kinchens
Kamren Kinchens at the 68th overall pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick69 Rnd3 Bralen Trice
Bralen Trice in the 69th pick is fair value, right on his grade. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick101 Rnd4 Mekhi Wingo
They jumped the gun on Mekhi Wingo, taking him earlier than his grade liked. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick143 Rnd5 Dillon Johnson
Dillon Johnson at No. 143 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
