Draft Grade — Cowboys
Overall
D+
ValueB-
NeedB
TradesF
FutureB-
A costly weekend of dealing drags the Cowboys to a D+. Boards are made to be trusted, and the Cowboys shredded theirs for Trey Moore. He came off 66 spots early, and the room will hear about it.
They lost the exchange badly enough to drag the whole class down. They punted on offensive lineman, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. On value alone, Hill Jr. makes the weekend a net positive.
Alec Pierce gives the group a proven body among the projects.
Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, offensive lineman very much included.
Pick Analysis
Pick12
Rnd1
Mansoor Delane
In pick No. 12 they get a sticky cover corner. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick30
Rnd1
Dillon Thieneman
In the Round 1 slot they get a downhill hitter at safety at fair value. Need was not the driver here.
Pick47
Rnd2
Anthony Hill Jr.
A tidy bit of business in pick 47, where Anthony Hill Jr. graded well above the range. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick78
Rnd3
Jacob Rodriguez
They paid sticker price for Jacob Rodriguez in No. 78, and that is fine. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick94
Rnd3
Malik Muhammad
A tidy little value on Malik Muhammad in the 94th overall pick, a step better than break-even. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick112
Rnd4
Jalon Kilgore
No edge and no loss on Jalon Kilgore in slot 112; it is a wash and a sensible one. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick150
Rnd5
Trey Moore
They left a pile of value on the table to take Trey Moore this early at pick 150. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick177
Rnd5
Oscar Delp
A reach on Oscar Delp in Round 5, Pick 39; the board had better options right there. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick215
Rnd6
Isaiah Nwokobia
A straight-up fair deal on Isaiah Nwokobia at slot 215, value and slot in agreement. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
Pick221
Rnd7
Barion Brown
Barion Brown in the Round 7 slot is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick225
Rnd7
TJ Hall
TJ Hall at the 225th overall pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the cornerback. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
