Scramblerguy DRAFTING FOR THEBills
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Bills
Overall
B-
ValueB
NeedB
TradesB-
FutureB-
The Bills kept it disciplined and banked a B-. The tape said wait; the Bills did not. Tyler Baron went at slot 132, a good 30 picks before the board was ready. It nets out to a B-, which feels about right.
The offensive lineman hole is the one line item this class does not answer. However the rest shakes out, Golden at that price is a win they earned.
Job largely done: linebacker settled and 6 of 9 of the wish list covered.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick Analysis
Pick30
Rnd1
Matthew Golden
In pick No. 30 they get a home-run threat at receiver, and a steal at that. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick56
Rnd2
Alfred Collins
By-the-book stuff, Alfred Collins at Round 2, Pick 24 squarely in line with his ranking. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick62
Rnd2
Maxwell Hairston
Maxwell Hairston in slot 62 is fair value, right on his grade. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick109
Rnd4
Jordan Phillips
Jordan Phillips in the 109th pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick132
Rnd4
Tyler Baron
They reached a country mile for Tyler Baron at No. 132, and the board is aghast. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick169
Rnd5
Ryan Fitzgerald
They paid sticker price for Ryan Fitzgerald in pick 169, and that is fine. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
Pick170
Rnd5
Jaydon Blue
Jaydon Blue in No. 170 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick173
Rnd5
Jack Kiser
The board had cheaper options than Jack Kiser at slot 173, and it noticed. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick177
Rnd6
Dont'e Thornton Jr.
Dont'e Thornton Jr. at the 177th overall pick is a conviction pick that outran the value. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick206
Rnd6
Caleb Ransaw
A market-rate safety, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Caleb Ransaw. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
