FutureA+
The 49ers let McNeil-Warren fall into their laps, and walked away with a D. You can lose a draft before you make a pick. The 49ers did it at the trade table, overpaying to chase players the board did not price nearly as high. The math is unkind, and the D follows.
That running back hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. If Jones pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about.
On value alone, McNeil-Warren makes the weekend a net positive.
In the end, a class the front office will want to grow past quickly.
Pick Analysis
Pick26
Rnd1
Cashius Howell
In pick No. 26 they get juice off the edge at fair value.
Pick44
Rnd2
Dani Dennis-Sutton
They paid up for Dani Dennis-Sutton at Round 2, Pick 12 when waiting would have done the job. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick59
Rnd2
Ian Strong
Ian Strong at No. 59 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick89
Rnd3
Omar Cooper Jr.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Omar Cooper Jr. at the 89th pick. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick91
Rnd3
Jaeden Roberts
They will replay Jaeden Roberts at pick 91 for years; that is how good the value is. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick125
Rnd4
Blake Miller
No drama and no debate, Blake Miller went about where he belonged in slot 125. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick126
Rnd4
Logan Jones
A reach on Logan Jones in pick No. 126; the board had better options right there. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick133
Rnd4
Emmanuel McNeil-Warren
Emmanuel McNeil-Warren in slot 133 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick139
Rnd4
Sammy Omosigho
A straight-up fair deal on Sammy Omosigho at the 139th pick, value and slot in agreement. The roster fit checks out.
Pick172
Rnd5
Oscar Delp
They took Oscar Delp at par in Round 5, Pick 33, which is nothing to complain about. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick208
Rnd6
DJ Harvey
DJ Harvey in No. 208 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
