Draft Grade — Bears
Overall B-
ValueC- NeedB+ TradesC FutureA
More right than wrong for the Bears, and a B- to prove it.

You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The Bears did exactly that with Thomas Fidone II in the 148th pick.

They punted on quarterback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. The dealing tilted against them, just enough to notice. On the needs board they went 6 of 8, with edge rusher the one that mattered most.

It is a bet on later, and a defensible one for a team playing the long game.

A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.

Pick Analysis
Pick27 Rnd1 Landon Jackson
Landon Jackson at the 27th overall pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick39 Rnd2 TreVeyon Henderson
The board had cheaper options than TreVeyon Henderson at Round 2, Pick 7, and it noticed. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick41 Rnd2 Donovan Jackson
A big swing on Donovan Jackson at the Round 2 slot, well ahead of any board in the building. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick45 Rnd2 Demetrius Knight Jr.
A conviction pick on Demetrius Knight Jr. at No. 45 that the board grades a round light. The roster fit checks out.
Pick72 Rnd3 Darien Porter
No edge and no loss on Darien Porter in the 72nd pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick136 Rnd4 Ty Robinson
A wild overpay on Ty Robinson in pick 136, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick148 Rnd5 Thomas Fidone II
Thomas Fidone II in Round 5, Pick 10 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick232 Rnd7 Kitan Crawford
Kitan Crawford in the Round 7 slot is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick233 Rnd7 Desmond Watson
A clean, defensible pick in slot 233 with a little surplus value in Desmond Watson. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick240 Rnd7 Jalen Travis
Value said wait; Jalen Travis in pick 240 says they were not listening. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
