Draft Grade — 49ers

More right than wrong for the 49ers, and a B- to prove it.

The weekend has a hole in the middle of it named running back, a need the 49ers walked right past. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B-.

The Moore steal is the beam this whole class leans on. They are betting Reed-Adams proves the room right and everyone else wrong. On the needs board they went 4 of 8, with offensive lineman the one that mattered most.

Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.

Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.

Pick Analysis
Pick25 Rnd1 Cashius Howell
They paid sticker price for Cashius Howell in pick 25, and that is fine. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick57 Rnd2 Connor Lew
Connor Lew at the Round 2 slot is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the offensive lineman. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick89 Rnd3 Xavier Chaplin
Xavier Chaplin at pick No. 89 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick125 Rnd4 Ar'maj Reed-Adams
Ar'maj Reed-Adams in Round 4, Pick 25 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick133 Rnd4 Terry Moore
A tidy bit of business in the 133rd pick, where Terry Moore graded well above the range. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick139 Rnd4 Eric Rivers
No edge and no loss on Eric Rivers in the 139th overall pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick172 Rnd5 Bryce Boettcher
Nothing to complain about; Bryce Boettcher went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. It fills a real need, too.
