Willx65 DRAFTING FOR THESteelers
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Steelers
Overall
B
ValueB-
NeedB+
TradesB-
FutureB-
A solid, sensible weekend for the Steelers: B. You can draft well and still miss the point. The Steelers did plenty of tidy work and somehow never got around to edge rusher, which was the need that mattered most. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B.
However the rest shakes out, Rourke at that price is a win they earned. On the needs board they went 5 of 9, with quarterback the one that mattered most.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick Analysis
Pick21
Rnd1
Kenneth Grant
In pick No. 21 they get a run-stuffing presence up front. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick83
Rnd3
Charles Grant
Charles Grant at the 83rd overall pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick123
Rnd4
Cody Simon
The board had cheaper options than Cody Simon at pick 123, and it noticed. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick156
Rnd5
Kurtis Rourke
They let Kurtis Rourke come to them and pounced at the 156th pick. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick185
Rnd6
DJ Giddens
The board had DJ Giddens higher than slot 185, and the running back fell to them anyway. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick229
Rnd7
R.J. Mickens
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and R.J. Mickens at the Round 7 slot is the proof. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
