Draft Grade — Commanders
Overall A
ValueA- NeedB TradesA+ FutureA+
Grand theft in pick 73: the Commanders steal Echoles and grade out a A.

Thirty-one other rooms let Will Echoles slide, and the Commanders were the ones holding the card at Round 3, Pick 9. Highway robbery.

Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. Leaving quarterback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.

Bottom line, they did the job about as well as it can be done.

Pick Analysis
Pick31 Rnd1 Kyngstonn Viliamu-Asa
In the 31st overall pick they get a downhill thumper at linebacker, outstanding value to boot. More want than need.
Pick37 Rnd2 Trey'Dez Green
Nice patience on Trey'Dez Green, who had no business lasting to slot 37. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick69 Rnd3 Kade Pieper
Kade Pieper at Round 3, Pick 5 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick73 Rnd3 Will Echoles
Steal is underselling it; Will Echoles at the 73rd pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick96 Rnd3 Devan Thompkins
Circle this one: Devan Thompkins at pick 96 is a fall that decides a draft. It fills a real need, too.
Pick106 Rnd4 Nyck Harbor
Nyck Harbor in No. 106 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick115 Rnd4 Jaylen McClain
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Jaylen McClain at the Round 4 slot. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick133 Rnd4 Shadre Hurst
They let Shadre Hurst come to them and pounced at pick No. 133. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick142 Rnd5 Jalen Mayo
No drama and no debate, Jalen Mayo went about where he belonged in slot 142. A pick in search of a role on this roster.
Pick183 Rnd6 Xavier Lucas
A quiet steal in the 183rd overall pick: Xavier Lucas for less than the market said. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick225 Rnd7 Mason Curtis
The board had Mason Curtis higher than Round 7, Pick 5, and the safety fell to them anyway. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
Pick244 Rnd7 Emmanuel Karnley
Emmanuel Karnley at No. 244 is money in the bank, a cornerback taken below his worth. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
