Draft Grade — Commanders
Overall

FutureA
The Commanders won the night they stopped Thompkins from sliding. Grade: A-. The Commanders did not reach, did not trade up, did not blink. They just waited, and Devan Thompkins fell into pick 106. Add it all up and it grades out a clean A-.
They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast. That quarterback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. The Commanders clearly valued win-now help, adding bodies who have done it before.
The future picks help the war chest more than the win-now roster.
The kind of weekend a front office frames and hangs on the wall.
Pick Analysis
Pick23
Rnd1
Kyngstonn Viliamu-Asa
In the 23rd pick they get a three-down second-level presence at a price that makes it sweeter. Need was not the driver here.
Pick42
Rnd2
KJ Bolden
They robbed the room for KJ Bolden here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick56
Rnd2
Ryan Coleman-Williams
A straight-up fair deal on Ryan Coleman-Williams at the Round 2 slot, value and slot in agreement. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick69
Rnd3
Ashton Hampton
A quiet steal in Round 3, Pick 5: Ashton Hampton for less than the market said. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick88
Rnd3
Bear Alexander
They barely believed it either: Bear Alexander still on the board at slot 88. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick106
Rnd4
Devan Thompkins
Devan Thompkins in pick No. 106 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick142
Rnd5
Anthony Boswell
A reasonable price with a little left over, Anthony Boswell in No. 142. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick148
Rnd5
Luke Reynolds
They paid sticker price for Luke Reynolds in the 148th overall pick, and that is fine. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick159
Rnd5
Eli Bowen
Eli Bowen in pick No. 159 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick183
Rnd6
Blake Frazier
Blake Frazier at Round 6, Pick 5 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the offensive lineman. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick225
Rnd7
Tao Johnson
Circle this one: Tao Johnson at slot 225 is a fall that decides a draft. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
