Draft Grade — Commanders
Overall B
ValueB+ NeedB TradesB FutureB-
The Commanders let Johnson fall and pounced. Final grade: B.

You build a draft on nights like this. Tao Johnson had no business being available in the Round 7 slot, and the Commanders did the only sane thing and turned in the card.

For all the activity, wide receiver went untouched, which is hard to explain. They went 5 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.

A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.

Pick Analysis
Pick6 Rnd1 Dylan Stewart
A market-rate edge rusher, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Dylan Stewart. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick37 Rnd2 Will Echoles
Will Echoles at the 37th pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It fills a real need, too.
Pick69 Rnd3 Kade Pieper
Kade Pieper in the 69th overall pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick75 Rnd3 Brice Pollock
Brice Pollock at Round 3, Pick 11 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick106 Rnd4 Jaylen McClain
Jaylen McClain at pick No. 106 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick142 Rnd5 Antwan Raymond
A straight-up fair deal on Antwan Raymond at pick 142, value and slot in agreement. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick183 Rnd6 Whit Weeks
The board fumbled Whit Weeks all the way to slot 183, and they scooped it up. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick225 Rnd7 Tao Johnson
A top-tier safety at a bargain, Tao Johnson in No. 225, plain and simple. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
