Draft Grade — 49ers

FutureB-
The 49ers won the night they stopped Emmanwori from sliding. Grade: B+. The real work happened on the phones. The 49ers fleeced their trade partners, turning their picks into a noticeably bigger pile than they started with.
If Conner pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Emmanwori.
They punted on quarterback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. The veteran additions, Tyler Guyton chief among them, give the class a floor the rookies alone would not.
Good work on the whole, with quarterback the one box left unchecked.
Pick Analysis
Pick12
Rnd1
Kelvin Banks Jr.
In pick 12 they get a building block for the line. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick43
Rnd2
Nick Emmanwori
You do not let a safety like Nick Emmanwori reach No. 43 and blink. They did not. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick56
Rnd2
Demetrius Knight Jr.
Demetrius Knight Jr. in the 56th pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick75
Rnd3
Jayden Higgins
The board fumbled Jayden Higgins all the way to the Round 3 slot, and they scooped it up. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick76
Rnd3
Darien Porter
No drama and no debate, Darien Porter went about where he belonged in slot 76. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick138
Rnd4
Logan Brown
Logan Brown at Round 4, Pick 36 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick148
Rnd5
Brashard Smith
Brashard Smith slid further than he should have, and pick No. 148 is lovely value for the running back. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick160
Rnd5
Seth McLaughlin
They jumped the gun on Seth McLaughlin, taking him earlier than his grade liked. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick227
Rnd7
Thomas Fidone II
Thomas Fidone II in slot 227 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick249
Rnd7
Cam Horsley
Cam Horsley at No. 249 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick252
Rnd7
Hayden Conner
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Hayden Conner well ahead of where he belonged. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
