Draft Grade — Chargers
Overall C+
ValueB- NeedC- TradesC FutureB-
Some hits, some head-scratchers, and a C+ for the Chargers.

Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Chargers were there to profit. Mike Sainristil, the No. 83 name on the board, should have been long gone before the Round 4 slot. A mixed bag that lands at C+.

If Gore Jr. pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. The trades cost them a sliver of value they did not need to spend. The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.

Hit on Olumuyiwa Fashanu and the swing picks, and this ages a lot better than it grades today.

Pick Analysis
Pick10 Rnd1 Olumuyiwa Fashanu
In slot 10 they get an anchor for the offensive line. Need was not the driver here.
Pick37 Rnd2 Byron Murphy II
They paid sticker price for Byron Murphy II in the 37th pick, and that is fine. The roster logic is harder to follow.
Pick69 Rnd3 Blake Corum
A market-rate running back, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Blake Corum. It fits a board better than it fits this team.
Pick72 Rnd3 Sedrick Van Pran
Sedrick Van Pran at pick No. 72 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. Hard to map this one onto the depth chart at all.
Pick105 Rnd4 Mike Sainristil
You do not let a cornerback like Mike Sainristil reach the 105th overall pick and blink. They did not. Where it fits the depth chart is the real question.
Pick142 Rnd5 Frank Gore Jr.
Value said wait; Frank Gore Jr. in No. 142 says they were not listening. Not a spot anyone had flagged, which makes it a head-scratcher.
Pick183 Rnd6 Curtis Jacobs
The board had Curtis Jacobs higher than Round 6, Pick 8, and the linebacker fell to them anyway. A fine player at a spot low on the priority list.
Pick226 Rnd7 Ja'Had Carter
A conviction pick on Ja'Had Carter at the 226th pick that the board grades a round light. The roster reasoning here is anyone's guess.
