There is reaching, and then there is Makhi Hughes at pick 159. The Bears jumped the board by 40 and dared it to prove them wrong.

Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. They punted on edge rusher, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.

They banked enough surplus on Sadiq to cover a lot of smaller sins. The imported veterans give this class a floor the draft picks could not on their own.

A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
