Draft Grade — Patriots
Overall D+
ValueB NeedB TradesF FutureD
Quarterback settled, Maye in the fold, and a D+ for the Patriots.

The trade table was where it all came apart. The Patriots shipped out far more than they hauled back, and no amount of spin dresses up the bill.

Everything downstream of Drake Maye depends on Drake Maye, and the building knows it. They are betting Randolph Jr. proves the room right and everyone else wrong.

With interior defensive lineman and safety unsolved, spending premium capital on DT-EDGE is the choice that costs them. Leaving interior defensive lineman unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.

The Dixon pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch. They are betting the present roster is worth a lighter draft next spring.

Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and interior defensive lineman is still a hole.

Pick Analysis
Pick4 Rnd1 Drake Maye
In No. 4 they get the face of the franchise at fair value. A real need, handled.
Pick27 Rnd1 Tyler Guyton
In pick 27 they get an anchor for the offensive line. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick35 Rnd2 Ladd McConkey
No drama and no debate, Ladd McConkey went about where he belonged in the 35th overall pick. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick37 Rnd2 Keon Coleman
Keon Coleman at the Round 2 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick104 Rnd4 Maason Smith
Of all the spots to shop, they chose DT-EDGE. Maason Smith in Round 4, Pick 4 leaves interior defensive lineman and safety for later.
Pick136 Rnd4 Ben Sinnott
A clean, defensible pick in pick No. 136 with a little surplus value in Ben Sinnott. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick148 Rnd5 Kalen King
Kalen King at the 148th pick is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick175 Rnd5 Walter Rouse
Fair-plus on Walter Rouse, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick182 Rnd6 Keith Randolph Jr.
Keith Randolph Jr. at No. 182 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick223 Rnd7 Johnny Dixon
Johnny Dixon at slot 223 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
Pick229 Rnd7 Frank Gore Jr.
They did well to land Frank Gore Jr. in the Round 7 slot, just ahead of his grade. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
