Draft Grade — Giants

FutureA+
The Giants fleeced the room on the phones and earned a A-. The Giants clearly saw something nobody else did in Will Sheppard, taking him 87 picks ahead of his grade. The board is not convinced.
Henderson falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch. They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast. The Giants clearly valued win-now help, adding bodies who have done it before.
The hoard sets up next April more than it helps this September.
Bottom line, with Jahdae Barron leading the way, this is a class that should pay off fast and rarely be regretted.
Pick Analysis
Pick17
Rnd1
Jahdae Barron
In slot 17 they get an island corner. A real need, handled.
Pick34
Rnd2
Ashton Gillotte
Ashton Gillotte in the Round 2 slot is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick45
Rnd2
Colston Loveland
Taking Colston Loveland in Round 2, Pick 13 is close to grand larceny; a tight end that good had no business lasting this long. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick49
Rnd2
Tyleik Williams
Tyleik Williams slipping to pick No. 49 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick65
Rnd3
Zy Alexander
Zy Alexander in pick 65 lands just on the right side of the ledger. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick76
Rnd3
Tre Harris
A wide receiver of that caliber at No. 76 is the definition of value, full stop. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick104
Rnd4
TreVeyon Henderson
TreVeyon Henderson in Round 4, Pick 3 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It fills a real need, too.
Pick116
Rnd4
Will Howard
Will Howard at the 116th overall pick is money in the bank, a quarterback taken below his worth. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick118
Rnd4
Malachi Moore
Circle this one: Malachi Moore at No. 118 is a fall that decides a draft. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick134
Rnd4
Logan Brown
They reached a country mile for Logan Brown at the Round 4 slot, and the board is aghast. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick152
Rnd5
Hayden Conner
Hayden Conner at pick No. 152 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick155
Rnd5
Cody Simon
They will replay Cody Simon at the 155th pick for years; that is how good the value is. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick221
Rnd7
Clay Webb
A real head-scratcher, Clay Webb in slot 221 is miles ahead of his ranking. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick248
Rnd7
Will Sheppard
Will Sheppard at pick 248 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
