STEEL DRAFTING FOR THESteelers
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Steelers
Overall
B-
ValueB
NeedB
TradesB-
FutureB-
The Steelers won the night they stopped Johnson from sliding. Grade: B-. You could see the war room lean forward. Kaleb Johnson at Round 3, Pick 19 is the sort of fall that does not happen, except it just did.
The Broughton pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. They will regret leaving quarterback for another day if the season turns on it.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick Analysis
Pick21
Rnd1
Will Johnson
In pick No. 21 they get a ballhawk on the outside at fair value.
Pick83
Rnd3
Kaleb Johnson
Kaleb Johnson in the 83rd pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. The roster fit checks out.
Pick123
Rnd4
Kyle Williams
Kyle Williams at No. 123 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick156
Rnd5
Vernon Broughton
They reached a country mile for Vernon Broughton at Round 5, Pick 18, and the board is aghast. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick185
Rnd6
JJ Pegues
By-the-book stuff, JJ Pegues at the 185th overall pick squarely in line with his ranking. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick229
Rnd7
Ricky White III
Ricky White III at the Round 7 slot is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the wide receiver. A need, and now a little less of one.
