Draft Grade — Chargers
Overall B-
ValueB- NeedB+ TradesA+ FutureD-
The Chargers cashed the board's mistake on Fautanu: B-.

This is the pick they will still be bragging about in July: Troy Fautanu, the No. 22 name on the board, stolen at pick 110. It does the job without flash, and the B- reflects it.

They will need Weaver to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. The dealing alone would carry a lesser class.

A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.

Pick Analysis
Pick11 Rnd1 Marvin Harrison Jr.
In Round 1, Pick 11 they get a home-run threat at receiver, and a steal at that. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick23 Rnd1 T'Vondre Sweat
In slot 23 they get a pocket-collapsing interior rusher, a steep price for the projection. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick37 Rnd2 Roman Wilson
They went early on Roman Wilson in pick 37, and the value did not follow. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick69 Rnd3 Payton Wilson
A slide stopped in No. 69, with Payton Wilson worth more than the price. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick90 Rnd3 Quinyon Mitchell
Quinyon Mitchell at pick No. 90 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick104 Rnd4 MarShawn Lloyd
MarShawn Lloyd at the Round 4 slot nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. It fills a real need, too.
Pick105 Rnd4 Malik Washington
The board had Malik Washington higher than the 105th overall pick, and the wide receiver fell to them anyway. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick110 Rnd4 Troy Fautanu
Troy Fautanu in the 110th pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick140 Rnd5 Joe Milton III
Joe Milton III at the 140th pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick181 Rnd6 Jared Wiley
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Jared Wiley. The roster fit checks out.
Pick225 Rnd7 Andrew Raym
They paid up for Andrew Raym at pick 225 when waiting would have done the job. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick253 Rnd7 J.J. Weaver
This one needs a full-page explanation: J.J. Weaver in pick No. 253, miles early. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
