Draft Grade — Lions
Overall B-
ValueC+ NeedB TradesB- FutureB-
More right than wrong for the Lions, and a B- to prove it.

The Lions did not so much draft Jake Majors as overpay for him, 29 picks clear of his grade. It sets an uneasy tone for the weekend. It does the job without flash, and the B- reflects it.

The Farmer value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere. Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. Job largely done: cornerback settled and 4 of 9 of the wish list covered.

In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.

Pick Analysis
Pick28 Rnd1 Emeka Egbuka
In slot 28 they get a No. 1 receiver. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick60 Rnd2 Tate Ratledge
A reach for Tate Ratledge in the Round 2 slot; a little patience would have been rewarded. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick102 Rnd3 Jake Majors
A wild overpay on Jake Majors in pick 102, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick130 Rnd4 Joshua Farmer
Value with a capital V on Joshua Farmer in pick No. 130, a genuine coup. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick196 Rnd6 Robert Longerbeam
Robert Longerbeam at Round 6, Pick 20 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick228 Rnd7 Howard Cross III
A quiet steal in the 228th overall pick: Howard Cross III for less than the market said. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
Pick244 Rnd7 CJ Dippre
They did well to land CJ Dippre in the Round 7 slot, just ahead of his grade. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
