Good, not great, for the Cowboys: B. For all the boxes ticked, the Cowboys skipped the loudest one: offensive lineman is exactly as bare as it was. It does the job without flash, and the B reflects it.
They will need Price to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. They banked enough surplus on Thieneman to cover a lot of smaller sins.
The dealing nudged the ledger their way without much fuss.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but offensive lineman.
Pick Analysis
Pick13
Rnd1
Mansoor Delane
In slot 13 they get a lockdown presence outside. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick28
Rnd1
Sonny Styles
Sonny Styles at the 28th pick is a conviction pick that outran the value. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick59
Rnd2
Dillon Thieneman
They let Dillon Thieneman come to them and pounced at No. 59. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick113
Rnd4
Jadarian Price
A conviction pick on Jadarian Price at pick 113 that the board grades a round light. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick152
Rnd5
Jacob Rodriguez
They took Jacob Rodriguez at par in the 152nd overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick179
Rnd5
Oscar Delp
Oscar Delp at pick No. 179 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. The roster fit checks out.
Pick181
Rnd5
Bud Clark
By-the-book stuff, Bud Clark at the Round 5 slot squarely in line with his ranking. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
Pick217
Rnd7
Jerry Wilson
The board had cheaper options than Jerry Wilson at Round 7, Pick 1, and it noticed. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick228
Rnd7
Barion Brown
A tidy little value on Barion Brown in Round 7, Pick 12, a step better than break-even. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
