Draft Grade — Panthers
Overall D
ValueB NeedB+ TradesF FutureB-
The steal of the weekend belongs to the Panthers and Davis: D.

Every swap seemed to tilt away from the Panthers, and the value they bled adds up to real damage.

With quarterback and tight end unsolved, spending premium capital on TE-EDGE is the choice that costs them. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through quarterback. That Davis pick is the receipt they will wave around later.

Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and quarterback is still a hole.

Pick Analysis
Pick27 Rnd1 Keon Coleman
In pick No. 27 they get a home-run threat at receiver. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick65 Rnd3 Edgerrin Cooper
The board had Edgerrin Cooper higher than the Round 3 slot, and the linebacker fell to them anyway. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick66 Rnd3 D.J. James
A tidy little value on D.J. James in the 66th pick, a step better than break-even. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick90 Rnd3 Josh Newton
Good price on Josh Newton in Round 3, Pick 27, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick97 Rnd3 Cade Stover
They bypassed pressing needs at quarterback and tight end to take Cade Stover, a TE-EDGE that was not the priority.
Pick101 Rnd4 Tyler Davis
Tyler Davis in slot 101 lands just on the right side of the ledger. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick118 Rnd4 Darius Robinson
A market-rate edge rusher, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Darius Robinson. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick123 Rnd4 Sataoa Laumea
They paid sticker price for Sataoa Laumea in pick No. 123, and that is fine. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick137 Rnd5 Jarrian Jones
A quiet steal in No. 137: Jarrian Jones for less than the market said. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick163 Rnd5 Keith Randolph Jr.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Keith Randolph Jr. at slot 163 is the proof. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick169 Rnd5 Edefuan Ulofoshio
Edefuan Ulofoshio at Round 5, Pick 33 is money in the bank, a linebacker taken below his worth. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick180 Rnd6 Roger Rosengarten
A reasonable price with a little left over, Roger Rosengarten in the 180th pick. It fills a real need, too.
Pick194 Rnd6 Josh Proctor
Nothing to complain about; Josh Proctor went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick222 Rnd7 Isaiah Davis
Isaiah Davis in the 222nd overall pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A need, and now a little less of one.
