Grand theft in the Round 5 slot: the 49ers steal Allar and grade out a B-.

When a board-topper like Drew Allar slides to pick 172, you do not overthink it, and the 49ers did not. Good, not great, and the B- says as much.

The cost of the Jackson Jr. reach is exactly the players who went right after him. That running back hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. Job largely done: offensive lineman settled and 5 of 8 of the wish list covered.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but running back.

Pick Analysis
Pick27 Rnd1 Caleb Lomu
In No. 27 they get a cornerstone up front, reach and all. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick58 Rnd2 Brian Parker II
They went early on Brian Parker II in Round 2, Pick 26, and the value did not follow. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick92 Rnd3 Kenyatta Jackson Jr.
They talked themselves into Kenyatta Jackson Jr. at pick 92, and the board did not agree. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick127 Rnd4 Bryce Lance
Bryce Lance at the 127th overall pick is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick133 Rnd4 Michael Trigg
Michael Trigg slipping to slot 133 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick139 Rnd4 Jude Bowry
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Jude Bowry in the Round 4 slot. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick172 Rnd5 Drew Allar
Circle this one: Drew Allar at the 172nd pick is a fall that decides a draft. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
