DonnaD DRAFTING FOR THECowboys
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Cowboys
Overall
B
ValueB
NeedB+
TradesB-
FutureB-
A respectable, level-headed haul for the Cowboys: B. The Cowboys treated their own grade as gospel and everyone else's as noise, spending the Round 7 slot on Jaylin Smith a full 24 spots early. They moved the roster forward and banked a B for it.
Getting West where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. The linebacker hole is the one line item this class does not answer. They left with wide receiver solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but linebacker.
Pick Analysis
Pick12
Rnd1
Ashton Jeanty
In the 12th pick they get a bell-cow for the offense at a price that makes it sweeter. A real need, handled.
Pick44
Rnd2
Jayden Higgins
Jayden Higgins in the 44th overall pick is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick76
Rnd3
Cameron Williams
Cameron Williams at the Round 3 slot nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick149
Rnd5
Quincy Riley
Quincy Riley in pick No. 149 is fair value, right on his grade. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick174
Rnd5
DJ Giddens
No edge and no loss on DJ Giddens in Round 5, Pick 36; it is a wash and a sensible one. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick204
Rnd6
CJ West
CJ West at No. 204 is money in the bank, a interior defensive lineman taken below his worth. It fills a real need, too.
Pick211
Rnd6
Thomas Fidone II
A tidy little value on Thomas Fidone II in slot 211, a step better than break-even. The roster fit checks out.
Pick217
Rnd7
Ricky White III
Ricky White III at the 217th overall pick is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick239
Rnd7
Jaylin Smith
Jaylin Smith at the Round 7 slot is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick247
Rnd7
Jermari Harris
A slide stopped in Round 7, Pick 31, with Jermari Harris worth more than the price. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
