Draft Grade — Cowboys
Overall D+
ValueF NeedB+ TradesB- FutureB-
The Cowboys fought the board and lost. D+.

The Cowboys did not so much draft Tyreem Powell as overpay for him, 331 picks clear of his grade. It sets an uneasy tone for the weekend. The process wobbled, and the D+ is where it lands.

The Mbow pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch. Leaving quarterback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.

They left with wide receiver solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.

Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, quarterback very much included.

Pick Analysis
Pick12 Rnd1 Tyreem Powell
In pick 12 they get a three-down second-level presence, a steep price for the projection. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick44 Rnd2 Sam Brown Jr.
A real head-scratcher, Sam Brown Jr. in slot 44 is miles ahead of his ranking. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick76 Rnd3 Tate Ratledge
Tate Ratledge at pick No. 76 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick149 Rnd5 Jamaree Caldwell
Steal is underselling it; Jamaree Caldwell at the Round 5 slot is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick171 Rnd5 Makari Paige
Makari Paige at Round 5, Pick 33 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick174 Rnd5 Phil Mafah
They talked themselves into Phil Mafah at the 174th pick, and the board did not agree. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick204 Rnd6 Jason Marshall Jr.
No drama and no debate, Jason Marshall Jr. went about where he belonged in pick No. 204. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick211 Rnd6 Chandler Martin
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Chandler Martin well ahead of where he belonged. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick239 Rnd7 Marcus Mbow
Marcus Mbow in pick 239 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick247 Rnd7 Da'Quan Felton
Da'Quan Felton at No. 247 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
