Draft Grade — Bears

FutureB-
Grand theft in slot 48: the Bears steal Thieneman and grade out a B. The rest of the league will want that one back. Dillon Thieneman tumbling to the Bears in Round 2, Pick 16 is a gift they did not have to think twice about.
The cornerback spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. It is not that Clark is a bad player; it is that the Bears had louder needs to answer first. They left with edge rusher solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick Analysis
Pick16
Rnd1
Rueben Bain Jr.
Fair-plus on Rueben Bain Jr., a quiet win that adds up over a draft. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick48
Rnd2
Dillon Thieneman
A top-tier safety at a bargain, Dillon Thieneman in Round 2, Pick 16, plain and simple. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick80
Rnd3
Sonny Styles
They paid sticker price for Sonny Styles in pick 80, and that is fine. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick126
Rnd4
Bud Clark
The needs board was loud and they turned it down, spending the 126th pick on Bud Clark with cornerback, quarterback and other spots unsolved.
Pick155
Rnd5
Le'Veon Moss
Le'Veon Moss at the Round 5 slot is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick194
Rnd6
Daevin Hobbs
No drama and no debate, Daevin Hobbs went about where he belonged in the 194th overall pick. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick229
Rnd7
Jack Velling
Jack Velling at pick No. 229 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick248
Rnd7
Ethan Onianwa
Ethan Onianwa in No. 248 is fair value, right on his grade. It fills a real need, too.
