Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall B-
ValueC NeedB TradesB+ FutureB-
No fireworks, just a tidy B- for the 49ers.

The 49ers spent real capital to be 37 picks early on Jalen Thompson, and the board is going to hold them to it. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B-.

A whole weekend of picks and wide receiver is somehow still a want. They banked enough surplus on Delp to cover a lot of smaller sins. The roster is better shaped than it was, with offensive lineman chief among the fixes.

In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.

Pick Analysis
Pick28 Rnd1 Gennings Dunker
In the 28th pick they get a plug-and-play piece up front, reach and all. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick60 Rnd2 Jalon Kilgore
They paid a round early for Jalon Kilgore in pick No. 60, more than the board wanted. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick96 Rnd3 Parker Brailsford
They jumped the gun on Parker Brailsford, taking him earlier than his grade liked. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick128 Rnd4 Oscar Delp
Oscar Delp slipping to pick 128 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick134 Rnd4 Lee Hunter
They left a pile of value on the table to take Lee Hunter this early at slot 134. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick167 Rnd5 Xavier Nwankpa
By-the-book stuff, Xavier Nwankpa at Round 5, Pick 29 squarely in line with his ranking. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick174 Rnd5 Tristan Leigh
Tristan Leigh at the Round 5 slot jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick206 Rnd6 Jalen Thompson
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Jalen Thompson. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick241 Rnd7 Solomon Tuliaupupu
Solomon Tuliaupupu at slot 241 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
