Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall C
ValueC+ NeedB TradesF FutureB-
A costly weekend of dealing drags the 49ers to a C.

The war room fell hard for Trey Moore, and it showed at the 167th overall pick: 59 picks ahead of a board that had other ideas.

The Fields steal is the beam this whole class leans on. The trade table is where this weekend went wrong. They will regret leaving quarterback for another day if the season turns on it.

The Moore pick reads as want over need, and the roster will feel it at quarterback.

If Gennings Dunker and a couple of the gambles land, hindsight will be kinder than this grade.

Pick Analysis
Pick32 Rnd1 Gennings Dunker
In pick No. 32 they get a cornerstone up front. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick82 Rnd3 Cashius Howell
By-the-book stuff, Cashius Howell at the 82nd overall pick squarely in line with his ranking. It fills a real need, too.
Pick92 Rnd3 Parker Brailsford
They paid up for Parker Brailsford at Round 3, Pick 28 when waiting would have done the job. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick93 Rnd3 Kage Casey
Kage Casey at pick 93 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick94 Rnd3 Oscar Delp
A real head-scratcher, Oscar Delp in the Round 3 slot is miles ahead of his ranking. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick96 Rnd3 Bud Clark
A top-tier safety at a bargain, Bud Clark in the 96th pick, plain and simple. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick97 Rnd3 Domani Jackson
A market-rate cornerback, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Domani Jackson. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick103 Rnd4 Harold Perkins Jr.
Nice patience on Harold Perkins Jr., who had no business lasting to pick 103. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick126 Rnd4 Malachi Fields
They robbed the room for Malachi Fields here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick128 Rnd4 Jaydn Ott
Jaydn Ott is a better player than pick No. 128 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick134 Rnd4 Rod Moore
A want over a need in the 134th pick: Rod Moore adds a safety while quarterback keeps waiting.
Pick137 Rnd4 Patrick Payton
They left a pile of value on the table to take Patrick Payton this early at the 137th overall pick. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick167 Rnd5 Trey Moore
They talked themselves into Trey Moore at slot 167, and the board did not agree. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick174 Rnd5 J.Michael Sturdivant
A big swing on J.Michael Sturdivant at Round 5, Pick 36, well ahead of any board in the building. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick206 Rnd6 Dominic Zvada
A premium they did not need to pay, Dominic Zvada a notch or two before his time. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
Pick241 Rnd7 Thomas Collins
Thomas Collins at No. 241 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
