Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the 49ers were there to profit. Barrett Carter, the No. 81 name on the board, should have been long gone before Round 3, Pick 36. The bottom line is a respectable B.

For all the activity, wide receiver went untouched, which is hard to explain. On the needs board they went 3 of 8, with offensive lineman the one that mattered most.

Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.

Somehow Barrett Carter was still sitting there in the 100th pick, and they pounced on premier linebacker value. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
