FutureB-
A costly weekend of dealing drags the 49ers to a C. Nobody else had Thomas Fidone II anywhere near the 255th pick. The 49ers did, by 119 spots, and that gap is the whole story. It washes out to a C, no better and no worse.
On value alone, Lambert-Smith makes the weekend a net positive. Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere.
In the end, one you will need a couple of seasons to truly judge.
Pick Analysis
Pick11
Rnd1
Tetairoa McMillan
Tetairoa McMillan at Round 1, Pick 11 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick43
Rnd2
Jonah Savaiinaea
By-the-book stuff, Jonah Savaiinaea at the 43rd overall pick squarely in line with his ranking. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick68
Rnd3
Deone Walker
A market-rate interior defensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Deone Walker. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick76
Rnd3
Dylan Fairchild
A big swing on Dylan Fairchild at the Round 3 slot, well ahead of any board in the building. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick99
Rnd3
Jake Majors
They jumped the gun on Jake Majors, taking him earlier than his grade liked. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick138
Rnd4
Tommi Hill
Tommi Hill in the 138th pick is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick139
Rnd4
Ryan Fitzgerald
Somehow Ryan Fitzgerald was still sitting there in the Round 4 slot, and they pounced on premier specialist value. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
Pick174
Rnd5
Lander Barton
Lander Barton in Round 5, Pick 35 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick182
Rnd6
Raheim Sanders
They will replay Raheim Sanders at No. 182 for years; that is how good the value is. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick189
Rnd6
Upton Stout
A straight-up fair deal on Upton Stout at pick 189, value and slot in agreement. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick198
Rnd6
Tyler Shough
A top-tier quarterback at a bargain, Tyler Shough in slot 198, plain and simple. The roster fit checks out.
Pick209
Rnd6
Trey Moore
A real head-scratcher, Trey Moore in pick No. 209 is miles ahead of his ranking. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick246
Rnd7
KeAndre Lambert-Smith
A wide receiver of that caliber at the 246th pick is the definition of value, full stop. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick255
Rnd7
Thomas Fidone II
They reached a country mile for Thomas Fidone II at the 255th overall pick, and the board is aghast. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
