If confidence were a draft strategy, the 49ers would have aced it. Thomas Fidone II at the Round 7 slot is 99 spots clear of where he belonged. The good and the questionable cancel out to a C.

The Williams steal is the beam this whole class leans on. The trades bled value they could not afford to lose. For all the activity, quarterback went untouched, which is hard to explain.

So much rides on Josh Simmons that the real verdict is a season or two away.
