FutureB-
A sensible, unshowy class lands the 49ers a B. The war room fell hard for Oluwafemi Oladejo, and it showed at No. 100: 41 picks ahead of a board that had other ideas. No fireworks, but a solid B.
For all the activity, quarterback went untouched, which is hard to explain. Getting Gordon II where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class.
The trade work was a quiet net positive. Job largely done: offensive lineman settled and 7 of 8 of the wish list covered.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick Analysis
Pick25
Rnd1
Kenneth Grant
In No. 25 they get a run-stuffing presence up front. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick30
Rnd1
Tyler Booker
In slot 30 they get a long-term starter on the line, reach and all. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick43
Rnd2
Marcus Mbow
Marcus Mbow in the Round 2 slot is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick68
Rnd3
Carson Schwesinger
Carson Schwesinger in Round 3, Pick 4 is fair value, right on his grade. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick97
Rnd3
Zy Alexander
A market-rate cornerback, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Zy Alexander. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick100
Rnd3
Oluwafemi Oladejo
Oluwafemi Oladejo at the 100th pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick113
Rnd4
Xavier Restrepo
Xavier Restrepo in the 113th overall pick lands just on the right side of the ledger. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick138
Rnd4
Jonas Sanker
They did well to land Jonas Sanker in the 138th pick, just ahead of his grade. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick147
Rnd5
Ty Robinson
They talked themselves into Ty Robinson at pick No. 147, and the board did not agree. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick160
Rnd5
Seth McLaughlin
They paid a round early for Seth McLaughlin in No. 160, more than the board wanted. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick187
Rnd6
Ollie Gordon II
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Ollie Gordon II in pick 187. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick222
Rnd7
Robert Longerbeam
Robert Longerbeam at the Round 7 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
Pick227
Rnd7
Thomas Fidone II
They reached into another round for Thomas Fidone II, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick252
Rnd7
Ethan Downs
Ethan Downs at slot 252 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It fills a real need, too.
