Draft Grade — Seahawks

FutureC
A weekend the Seahawks spent fighting the board, and losing. F. Nobody had Hayden Hatten this high, and it is not close. The Seahawks reached 65 spots to get him at the 236th pick.
Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere. The quarterback spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. Spending an early pick on cornerback with quarterback open is the decision the grade keeps circling back to.
They are betting the present roster is worth a lighter draft next spring.
About as rough as a weekend gets on paper, with quarterback still staring back at them.
Pick Analysis
Pick16
Rnd1
Cooper DeJean
In Round 1, Pick 16 they get a press-man option on the boundary. More want than need.
Pick39
Rnd2
Chris Braswell
Good price on Chris Braswell in pick No. 39, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick41
Rnd2
Ja'Tavion Sanders
A premium they did not need to pay, Ja'Tavion Sanders a notch or two before his time. The roster fit checks out.
Pick44
Rnd2
Zach Frazier
This one needs a full-page explanation: Zach Frazier in the Round 2 slot, miles early. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick52
Rnd2
T'Vondre Sweat
The board had cheaper options than T'Vondre Sweat at the 52nd pick, and it noticed. It fills a real need, too.
Pick70
Rnd3
D.J. James
A want over a need in No. 70: D.J. James adds a cornerback while quarterback keeps waiting.
Pick81
Rnd3
Junior Colson
Fair-plus on Junior Colson, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick84
Rnd3
Christian Mahogany
A reasonable price with a little left over, Christian Mahogany in slot 84. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick88
Rnd3
Marshawn Kneeland
Value said wait; Marshawn Kneeland in the 88th pick says they were not listening. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick107
Rnd4
Ainias Smith
No drama and no debate, Ainias Smith went about where he belonged in No. 107. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick118
Rnd4
Leonard Taylor III
Nothing to complain about; Leonard Taylor III went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick119
Rnd4
Javion Cohen
Javion Cohen in pick 119 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick120
Rnd4
Javon Foster
They paid sticker price for Javon Foster in Round 4, Pick 20, and that is fine. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick125
Rnd4
Ben Sinnott
A reach on Ben Sinnott in pick No. 125; the board had better options right there. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick135
Rnd4
Sincere Haynesworth
A real head-scratcher, Sincere Haynesworth in slot 135 is miles ahead of his ranking. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick154
Rnd5
Jaylen Wright
Jaylen Wright at Round 5, Pick 18 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick194
Rnd6
J.J. Weaver
J.J. Weaver at pick No. 194 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick236
Rnd7
Hayden Hatten
They left a pile of value on the table to take Hayden Hatten this early at No. 236. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
