Draft Grade — Chargers
Overall B-
ValueB- NeedB TradesB- FutureB-
A sensible, unshowy class lands the Chargers a B-.

The Chargers put a flag in the ground for Drake Nugent, 43 picks before anyone else would have, and the value took the hit. Call it a sensible B-, earned the boring way.

For all the activity, interior defensive lineman went untouched, which is hard to explain. The roster is better shaped than it was, with edge rusher chief among the fixes. The skill positions did well by the weekend.

Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.

Pick Analysis
Pick5 Rnd1 Brock Bowers
In Round 1, Pick 5 they get a moveable chess piece at tight end. A real need, handled.
Pick37 Rnd2 Kris Jenkins
They liked Kris Jenkins enough to skip the value, taking him in slot 37. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick69 Rnd3 Brenden Rice
A straight-up fair deal on Brenden Rice at the 69th overall pick, value and slot in agreement. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick105 Rnd4 Drake Nugent
Drake Nugent at the 105th pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. The roster fit checks out.
Pick142 Rnd5 Braelon Allen
They paid up for Braelon Allen at the Round 5 slot when waiting would have done the job. It fills a real need, too.
Pick183 Rnd6 Michael Barrett
They took Michael Barrett at par in pick 183, which is nothing to complain about. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick226 Rnd7 Sheridan Jones
Sheridan Jones at the Round 7 slot nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
