FutureB
Nothing loud, just a tidy B- for the Rams. You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The Rams did exactly that with Isaiah Davis in slot 194. It does the job without flash, and the B- reflects it.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped safety, which is a strange place to end up. Gray falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch.
They went 5 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for. The offense got the lion's share of the attention.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the safety spot they never got to.
Pick Analysis
Pick13
Rnd1
Emeka Egbuka
Emeka Egbuka in pick 13 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick45
Rnd2
Kalen King
Kalen King at slot 45 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick104
Rnd4
Jaheim Bell
Jaheim Bell in the Round 4 slot is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick132
Rnd4
Darius Robinson
They paid a round early for Darius Robinson in Round 4, Pick 32, more than the board wanted. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick150
Rnd5
Cedric Gray
Nice patience on Cedric Gray, who had no business lasting to pick No. 150. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick160
Rnd5
Bryce Foster
Value said wait; Bryce Foster in No. 160 says they were not listening. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick194
Rnd6
Isaiah Davis
They left a pile of value on the table to take Isaiah Davis this early at the Round 6 slot. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick214
Rnd6
Willie Roberts
A clean, defensible pick in the 214th pick with a little surplus value in Willie Roberts. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
Pick216
Rnd6
Joshua Gray
By-the-book stuff, Joshua Gray at No. 216 squarely in line with his ranking. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick218
Rnd6
Kaimon Rucker
This one needs a full-page explanation: Kaimon Rucker in Round 6, Pick 43, miles early. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick221
Rnd7
Dwight McGlothern
A conviction pick on Dwight McGlothern at slot 221 that the board grades a round light. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
Pick225
Rnd7
Layden Robinson
Layden Robinson at pick 225 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
