Draft Grade — Lions
Overall

ValueB-

FutureB-
No fireworks, just a tidy B- for the Lions. Call it a hunch or call it a gamble, but the Lions spent slot 251 on Storm Duck, a name most had 73 spots down the list. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B-.
The Coleman value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere. The safety hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
The roster is better shaped than it was, with cornerback chief among the fixes.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick Analysis
Pick30
Rnd1
Quinyon Mitchell
In the Round 1 slot they get a potential shutdown corner. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick62
Rnd2
Keon Coleman
They will replay Keon Coleman at the 62nd pick for years; that is how good the value is. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick73
Rnd3
Cooper Beebe
Cooper Beebe at Round 3, Pick 9 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick93
Rnd3
Leonard Taylor III
Leonard Taylor III at pick 93 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick167
Rnd5
Jaylen Harrell
This one needs a full-page explanation: Jaylen Harrell in No. 167, miles early. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick208
Rnd6
Christian Jones
Somehow Christian Jones was still sitting there in slot 208, and they pounced on premier offensive lineman value. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick251
Rnd7
Storm Duck
A wild overpay on Storm Duck in Round 7, Pick 31, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
