The board owed the 49ers one, and it paid up: Deontae Lawson, the No. 62 name on the board, sitting there at the Round 3 slot like a gift left on the doorstep. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B.

That running back hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. Every board in the league had Rutledge lower, and that gap is the story. Offensive lineman was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.

A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.

In slot 26 they get a sideline-to-sideline linebacker, and a steal at that. A real need, handled.
Pick59 Rnd2 Jake Slaughter
Somehow Jake Slaughter was still sitting there in pick No. 59, and they pounced on premier offensive lineman value. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick90 Rnd3 Deontae Lawson
They will replay Deontae Lawson at Round 3, Pick 26 for years; that is how good the value is. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick127 Rnd4 Keylan Rutledge
Keylan Rutledge at the Round 4 slot is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick133 Rnd4 Bryce Lance
Bryce Lance at the 133rd overall pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the wide receiver. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.

Chris Johnson at the 138th pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
