Draft Grade — Patriots
Overall D-
ValueB- NeedB+ TradesF FutureB-
A costly weekend of dealing drags the Patriots to a D-.

The war room fell hard for Kain Medrano, and it showed at slot 238: 99 picks ahead of a board that had other ideas. The math is unkind, and the D- follows.

They lost the exchange badly enough to drag the whole class down. They will regret leaving safety for another day if the season turns on it. They banked enough surplus on Burden III to cover a lot of smaller sins.

Job largely done: edge rusher settled and 5 of 8 of the wish list covered.

Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, safety very much included.

Pick Analysis
Pick7 Rnd1 Will Campbell
In the 7th overall pick they get a cornerstone up front at fair value.
Pick38 Rnd2 Luther Burden III
Luther Burden III slid further than he should have, and pick 38 is lovely value for the wide receiver. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick40 Rnd2 Derrick Harmon
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Derrick Harmon at No. 40 is the proof. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick42 Rnd2 Emeka Egbuka
Emeka Egbuka is a better player than slot 42 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick54 Rnd2 Jordan Burch
Jordan Burch in the 54th pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick217 Rnd7 Ty Hamilton
They reached into another round for Ty Hamilton, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick220 Rnd7 Phil Mafah
Phil Mafah in the Round 7 slot is fair value, right on his grade. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick238 Rnd7 Kain Medrano
Kain Medrano at slot 238 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A minor need, but a need all the same.
