FutureB-
A sensible, unshowy class lands the Cowboys a B. The Trey Moore selection is the head-turner. The Cowboys reached 66 spots for him, and it will define how this weekend is remembered. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B.
A whole weekend of picks and offensive lineman is somehow still a want. They banked enough surplus on Payton to cover a lot of smaller sins.
They went 5 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but offensive lineman.
Pick Analysis
Pick12
Rnd1
Mansoor Delane
In Round 1, Pick 12 they get an island corner at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick26
Rnd1
Sonny Styles
In the 26th pick they get a three-down second-level presence. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick91
Rnd3
Zakee Wheatley
Zakee Wheatley in pick 91 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick112
Rnd4
Demond Claiborne
Demond Claiborne in the 112th overall pick is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick126
Rnd4
Trey Moore
Trey Moore at pick No. 126 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick150
Rnd5
Jermaine Mathews Jr.
A conviction pick on Jermaine Mathews Jr. at slot 150 that the board grades a round light. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick177
Rnd5
Isaiah Nwokobia
The board had cheaper options than Isaiah Nwokobia at Round 5, Pick 39, and it noticed. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Pick215
Rnd6
Cole Payton
Cole Payton is a better player than slot 215 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick221
Rnd7
Kendrick Law
They talked themselves into Kendrick Law at pick 221, and the board did not agree. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick225
Rnd7
Hykeem Williams
They paid sticker price for Hykeem Williams in the 225th overall pick, and that is fine. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
