Draft Grade — Ravens
Overall
B-
ValueC
NeedB
TradesA+
FutureD+
Nobody dealt better than the Ravens this weekend: B-. The Ravens clearly saw something nobody else did in Phillip Webb, taking him 132 picks ahead of his grade. The board is not convinced.
They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast. The Mukuba pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with quarterback still on the board.
A whole weekend of picks and quarterback is somehow still a want.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick Analysis
Pick38
Rnd2
Donovan Ezeiruaku
They jumped the gun on Donovan Ezeiruaku, taking him earlier than his grade liked. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick51
Rnd2
Xavier Watts
Xavier Watts is a better player than pick 51 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick52
Rnd2
Wyatt Milum
A premium they did not need to pay, Wyatt Milum a notch or two before his time. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick53
Rnd2
Darien Porter
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Darien Porter well ahead of where he belonged. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick76
Rnd3
Carson Schwesinger
They did well to land Carson Schwesinger in the 76th overall pick, just ahead of his grade. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick89
Rnd3
Andrew Mukuba
They zigged when the board said zag, taking Andrew Mukuba at safety with quarterback open.
Pick90
Rnd3
Ozzy Trapilo
Ozzy Trapilo slid further than he should have, and the 90th overall pick is lovely value for the offensive lineman. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick117
Rnd4
Cody Simon
The eyebrow-raiser of the weekend. They went linebacker with Cody Simon while clear needs at quarterback sat open.
Pick120
Rnd4
Ty Hamilton
Ty Hamilton in slot 120 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick122
Rnd4
O'Donnell Fortune
A wild overpay on O'Donnell Fortune in pick 122, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick136
Rnd4
Andres Borregales
Hard to square with the roster. With positions of obvious need still on the board, Andres Borregales adds a specialist and leaves quarterback untouched.
Pick167
Rnd5
Dont'e Thornton Jr.
Dont'e Thornton Jr. in Round 5, Pick 29 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick176
Rnd5
Oronde Gadsden II
Oronde Gadsden II at No. 176 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick177
Rnd6
CJ West
CJ West at the 177th pick is a conviction pick that outran the value. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick193
Rnd6
Jay Higgins
They went early on Jay Higgins in the 193rd pick, and the value did not follow. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Pick203
Rnd6
Jarquez Hunter
Jarquez Hunter slipping to pick 203 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. It fills a real need, too.
Pick210
Rnd6
KeAndre Lambert-Smith
Value with a capital V on KeAndre Lambert-Smith in No. 210, a genuine coup. The roster fit checks out.
Pick212
Rnd6
Hayden Conner
Hayden Conner in slot 212 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick220
Rnd7
Phillip Webb
They reached a country mile for Phillip Webb at the Round 7 slot, and the board is aghast. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
