Klondike DRAFTING FOR THEBills
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Bills
Overall
B-
ValueB
NeedB
TradesB-
FutureB-
A sensible, unshowy class lands the Bills a B-. Nobody else had Jalen McLeod anywhere near the 170th overall pick. The Bills did, by 40 spots, and that gap is the whole story.
That is an interior defensive lineman worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. They punted on linebacker, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. It is not that Parrish is a bad player; it is that the Bills had louder needs to answer first.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick Analysis
Pick30
Rnd1
Matthew Golden
In the Round 1 slot they get a No. 1 receiver, outstanding value to boot. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick56
Rnd2
Walter Nolen
Walter Nolen at pick No. 56 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick62
Rnd2
Maxwell Hairston
Maxwell Hairston at No. 62 is a conviction pick that outran the value. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick109
Rnd4
Joshua Farmer
Joshua Farmer in the 109th overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick132
Rnd4
Jacob Parrish
A surprising call. With linebacker, offensive lineman and other spots still to address, they spent slot 132 on Jacob Parrish, a cornerback they were not short of.
Pick169
Rnd5
Jaylen Reed
Jaylen Reed at pick 169 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick170
Rnd5
Jalen McLeod
They talked themselves into Jalen McLeod at slot 170, and the board did not agree. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick173
Rnd5
Elijah Roberts
They went early on Elijah Roberts in pick 173, and the value did not follow. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick177
Rnd6
KeAndre Lambert-Smith
Value said wait; KeAndre Lambert-Smith in Round 6, Pick 1 says they were not listening. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick206
Rnd6
Thomas Fidone II
A clean, defensible pick in the 206th overall pick with a little surplus value in Thomas Fidone II. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
