Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall B-
ValueC NeedB TradesB- FutureB-
No fireworks, just a tidy B- for the 49ers.

The 49ers treated their own grade as gospel and everyone else's as noise, spending the 227th pick on Jalen Travis a full 66 spots early. Good, not great, and the B- says as much.

A whole weekend of picks and running back is somehow still a want. However the rest shakes out, Williams at that price is a win they earned.

The roster is better shaped than it was, with offensive lineman chief among the fixes.

Good work on the whole, with running back the one box left unchecked.

Pick Analysis
Pick11 Rnd1 Mykel Williams
In pick No. 11 they get a premier pass rusher at fair value. A real need, handled.
Pick43 Rnd2 Omarr Norman-Lott
Omarr Norman-Lott at Round 2, Pick 11 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick75 Rnd3 Deone Walker
Deone Walker at slot 75 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick100 Rnd3 Danny Stutsman
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Danny Stutsman at pick 100. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick113 Rnd4 Lathan Ransom
Lathan Ransom at No. 113 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick138 Rnd4 Luke Kandra
They left a pile of value on the table to take Luke Kandra this early at the Round 4 slot. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick147 Rnd5 Kyle Williams
Circle this one: Kyle Williams at the Round 5 slot is a fall that decides a draft. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick160 Rnd5 Elijah Roberts
Elijah Roberts at pick No. 160 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It fills a real need, too.
Pick227 Rnd7 Jalen Travis
A wild overpay on Jalen Travis in No. 227, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick249 Rnd7 Jermari Harris
Jermari Harris at the 249th pick is money in the bank, a cornerback taken below his worth. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick252 Rnd7 Teddye Buchanan
By-the-book stuff, Teddye Buchanan at the 252nd overall pick squarely in line with his ranking. The roster fit checks out.
