The Cowboys cashed the board's mistake on Green: B-.

Call it larceny. Mike Green sat on the board until pick No. 76, and the Cowboys did not need to be asked twice.

If James pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped cornerback, which is a strange place to end up.

They left with wide receiver solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off. The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.

Good work on the whole, with cornerback the one box left unchecked.

Pick Analysis
Pick12 Rnd1 Kenneth Grant
In Round 1, Pick 12 they get an anchor for the defensive front, though they paid up to get him.
Pick44 Rnd2 Kaleb Johnson
Kaleb Johnson in pick 44 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. The roster fit checks out.
Pick76 Rnd3 Mike Green
They robbed the room for Mike Green here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick149 Rnd5 Jake Majors
A tidy bit of business in the 149th pick, where Jake Majors graded well above the range. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick171 Rnd5 Dont'e Thornton Jr.
Dont'e Thornton Jr. in slot 171 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick174 Rnd5 CJ West
CJ West at the 174th overall pick is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick204 Rnd6 Shemar James
They reached into another round for Shemar James, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick211 Rnd6 Jay Higgins
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Jay Higgins at No. 211 is the proof. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick239 Rnd7 Sam Brown Jr.
They paid up for Sam Brown Jr. at slot 239 when waiting would have done the job. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick247 Rnd7 Jackson Hawes
Jackson Hawes at Round 7, Pick 31 is a conviction pick that outran the value. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
