Draft Grade — Patriots
Overall D+
ValueB NeedB TradesF FutureA+
The Patriots lost the trade table, and the D+ tells the story.

Nobody had Donovan Smith this high, and it is not close. The Patriots reached 32 spots to get him at the 238th pick. Put together, it is a D+.

The trades bled value they could not afford to lose. They banked enough surplus on Neal to cover a lot of smaller sins.

The veteran additions, Mike Hilton chief among them, give the class a floor the rookies alone would not. It is a bet on later, and a defensible one for a team playing the long game.

The verdict is not kind, and fairly so; this class has a hill to climb.

Pick Analysis
Pick25 Rnd1 Nick Emmanwori
In the Round 1 slot they get a two-high chess piece. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick35 Rnd2 Colston Loveland
Colston Loveland at slot 35 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick49 Rnd2 Landon Jackson
They did well to land Landon Jackson in pick 49, just ahead of his grade. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick69 Rnd3 Cameron Williams
No edge and no loss on Cameron Williams in the 69th overall pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick77 Rnd3 Dylan Sampson
Dylan Sampson in Round 3, Pick 13 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick79 Rnd3 Ozzy Trapilo
Ozzy Trapilo at pick No. 79 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick85 Rnd3 Andrew Mukuba
A straight-up fair deal on Andrew Mukuba at pick 85, value and slot in agreement. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick89 Rnd3 Jared Wilson
They paid a round early for Jared Wilson in pick No. 89, more than the board wanted. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick106 Rnd4 Devin Neal
The board fumbled Devin Neal all the way to No. 106, and they scooped it up. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick144 Rnd5 Aeneas Peebles
Aeneas Peebles in the Round 5 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick208 Rnd6 Ricky White III
They jumped the gun on Ricky White III, taking him earlier than his grade liked. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick217 Rnd7 Brandon Crenshaw-Dickson
Brandon Crenshaw-Dickson slipping to Round 7, Pick 1 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick220 Rnd7 Caleb Ransaw
Value with a capital V on Caleb Ransaw in the 220th pick, a genuine coup. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick238 Rnd7 Donovan Smith
They left a pile of value on the table to take Donovan Smith this early at the 238th overall pick. It fills a real need, too.
