Draft Grade — Patriots

The Patriots kept it disciplined and banked a B-. There is conviction, and then there is this. The Patriots took Xavier Restrepo a full 29 picks ahead of where the board had him, an overdraft steep enough that it colors the whole weekend.
That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. They left with wide receiver solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off. Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick Analysis
Pick4
Rnd1
Will Campbell
In the 4th pick they get a blindside protector. A real need, handled.
Pick38
Rnd2
Omarion Hampton
Omarion Hampton at Round 2, Pick 6 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. It fills a real need, too.
Pick69
Rnd3
Maxwell Hairston
A market-rate cornerback, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Maxwell Hairston. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick77
Rnd3
Xavier Restrepo
They left a pile of value on the table to take Xavier Restrepo this early at the 77th overall pick. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
