FutureA+
The Patriots worked the phones like thieves and earned a A-. Give the war room a raise for the dealing alone. The Patriots came out ahead on every exchange that mattered, and it was not close.
If Tagovailoa pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped interior defensive lineman, which is a strange place to end up.
Add it up and few war rooms did better this weekend, Bo Nix and all.
Pick Analysis
Pick34
Rnd2
Bo Nix
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Bo Nix in No. 34. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick39
Rnd2
Troy Fautanu
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Troy Fautanu at pick No. 39 is the proof. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick47
Rnd2
Keon Coleman
Keon Coleman at slot 47 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick68
Rnd3
Javon Bullard
Javon Bullard in Round 3, Pick 4 lands just on the right side of the ledger. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick72
Rnd3
Brenden Rice
Brenden Rice in the Round 3 slot is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick76
Rnd3
Payton Wilson
Payton Wilson at the 76th pick is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick104
Rnd4
Darius Robinson
They paid a round early for Darius Robinson in the 104th overall pick, more than the board wanted. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick108
Rnd4
Khyree Jackson
Khyree Jackson at pick 108 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the cornerback. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick136
Rnd4
Javion Cohen
A reach on Javion Cohen in slot 136; the board had better options right there. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick182
Rnd6
Jaylan Ford
Jaylan Ford at the 182nd overall pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
Pick185
Rnd6
Nathan Thomas
Nothing to complain about; Nathan Thomas went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. The roster fit checks out.
Pick229
Rnd7
Taulia Tagovailoa
Taulia Tagovailoa at pick 229 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
